The trade the house was founded on — WWI officers’ uniforms, a Royal Warrant granted in 1990, and ceremonial craft still on the board.
Welsh & Jefferies was founded on military tailoring: from 1917 the house cut dress and service uniforms for officers of many regiments, the Rifle Brigade and the Coldstream Guards among them.
In 1990 the firm was granted the Royal Warrant of HRH The Prince of Wales as military tailor — the most formal page in the house’s record.
The craft remains on the board today. Frogging, bullion work, standing collars and shoulder boards live in the house archive — and the same structure underwrites every civilian coat we cut. Enquiries for ceremonial and uniform commissions are welcome.
